Tynedale Junior Hockey Taster

11th September 2019
Hockey Taster
On Wednesday 11th September, we played host to a session that piloted a local club that is opening its doors to children from the age of FOUR upwards for the first time. Tynedale Hockey Club is based at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham and is a well-established club in the local area. Schools were approached to host a session of Hockey to introduce their new scheme. This is a six week block of sessions that are open for children to attend to introduce them to a programme called HOCKEY HEROES. This concentrates on the skills of dribbling and passing and the value of working as a member of a team.
The afternoon was split into two sessions. Year Three and Four went first and joined in with great enthusiasm and excitement. The children were split into teams and their first task was to create their own team’s celebration for when their team succeeded at a challenge. Some very interesting “celebrations” were created.

The children were given their hockey sticks and were soon dribbling the ball like experienced players!

The second session was for Reception, Year One and Year Two. The younger children followed a similar programme to the first session and a great time was had by all.

Perhaps we might have found some of our Olympic Stars of the future!
