Slaley visits Derwentside Gymnastics Club

19th December 2019
On Thursday 19th December, every pupil in school visited Derwentside Gymnastics Club for an opportunity to try out a wide range of gymnastic activities. This club is run by Mr Paul Clarke, our P.E. coach, who comes in to school to support the delivery of high quality PE at Slaley First School.

The pupils took part in a series of warm- up activities with great enthusiasm. This was followed by a carousel of skills activities such as different rolls, handstands, cartwheels etc.

The pupils then moved on to three different pieces of equipment. They were able to use three different levels of the Balance Beam, practising walking along and exploring how to dismount.

They were also allowed to use the lower bar of the Asymmetric Bars, where everyone enjoyed hanging and swinging and some managed to raise their feet up to the bar.

Probably the most exciting piece, and certainly the favourite, was the inflatable runway and foam pool where the pupils (and some staff and volunteers!) could practise forward somersaults in the air and then land in the foam! A great time was had by all!

Everybody had an amazing time and we certainly hope to visit again in the near future.

A huge thank you to Mr Paul Clarke, his partner Hannah and the two volunteer coaches who helped all our pupils have an amazing experience and a lot of fun!
