Christmas Wreath Night – 4th December 2019

In a new addition to the FOSS calendar this year, twenty five parents and friends of the school were treated to a fun, festive night of wreath making in the village hall. We were very lucky to have Charlotte Douglas, Joan Watson, Gwen Foster and Margaret Ogle  on hand to guide us through and demonstrate what they should look like. With their expert advice and help, everyone left feeling very festive and with wonderful wreaths all ready for our doors. Thank you to everyone who helped by baking/bringing nibbles for the evening and to those who contributed raffle prizes (we were all hoping to win one of Charlotte’s floral table displays or Mrs English’s wonderful Christmas cake!)

As well as having a fun social night, we also raised a wonderful £332.61 so it was a real success.

FoSS Christmas Fayre
Thank you for supporting our Christmas Fayre on Friday. It was a festive event featuring Christmas crafts, music, mulled wine, special reindeer and some fantastic artwork from all the children of Slaley First School. From writing and posting your own letter to Santa, decorating your own gingerbread men to tattoos and candy dippers, there was lots to do. The hall was decorated with only a few of Shannon's 24 boxes of baubles and other festive ornaments and a lovely tree decorated by more of the children's handmade creations.
There were some fabulous raffle prizes and hampers won by: Cara Stephenson, Charlotte Douglas, Susan Lamb, Mrs Brett, Claire Hart, Preston's grandparents, Andrea Foster, Tom Brown and Madeline's Grandma. Madeline also won 'Olaf' as she correctly guessed 51 baubles in the light up snowman decoration! Santa's little helper 'Elfie' made sure that letters to Santa were posted in the magic post box (made by Karen). Charlotte and Andrea provided a range of refreshments from the kitchen and the 'tuck shop' with individually packaged sweets and home-baking. Whilst Angelica sold her fabulous 'build your edible snowman', Amanda finished the event covered in glitter, a firm favourite on the craft stall.
And of course, it would not have been a festive event without Alan Ogle's special reindeer...the best behaved sheep you'll ever meet (well apart from a little mishap)....well when you have to go, you have to go!
So another massive "Thank You" to everyone who contributed and/or supported the event. We have raised an amazing £482.13!
Best wishes,

 Halloween Disco -  24th October 2018

A massive thank you to everyone who turned up and supported our Early Halloween disco yesterday. A fantastic 50 hyper Monsters and Ghouls (and some princesses and Hulks thrown in to boot) checked in to Commemmoration Hall as they were entertained by ‘Discoman’ John. There were prizes given for Best Costume and Best Dancing which were won by Robin Irish and Bea Stephenson respectively. It’s fab to get the kids together for a last ‘hooray’ before half-term begins. The photos will be on the Website shortly!!

A HUGE thanks to Leanne, Phil and Rachel for helping to decorate the Hall, it looked amazing…well you can never have too many spooky decorations!!!  Thanks also to Claire and her hubby for making some last minute giant spiders (one of which was last seen flying high in the direction of Slaley Hall). Thanks to everyone else helping at the Disco (Jacqui, Cara, Joanna, Penny, Charlotte and Ching)…your help means we can continue to run these types of events, so “Thank you!”

FoSS Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, 24th March 2018
Report by Emma Turnbull

Over 20 families joined in the fun for our FOSS Easter Egg Hunt in the school grounds. The kids were ‘chomping at the bit’ with some already having spied some eggs. A plan, giving the under-fives a head start, quickly fell apart as most families took off on ‘Ready Steady Go’! ‘Oh what the heck, everyone just Go Go Go!!’

With over 240 hidden eggs, a word challenge to complete and 6 missing chicks to find and return to their nest, it was fab!! Slaley children really do love their chocolate. Mind you, some Mums and Dads gave them a run for their money!!

A huge thanks to all the parents for their donations which was equally matched by some generous donations from Waitrose, Aldi, Co-op, Iceland and Beales. An amazing result.

Everybody had a great time and you raised……

Well done Everybody!!

'The Chocoholics Hamper' - Hannah - (Pink 956- 960)

Those hampers yet to be collected will be available from the School on Monday but a huge thanks to everyone who has supported the event either through hamper donations, buying raffle tickets or coming along to the Rose and Crown. In total, £140 was raised which goes directly into the FoSS funds in order to provide additional resources and exciting activities for the children.

So thank you again. And many thanks to Alan Ogle's 'special' Reindeer who behaved impeccably in the pub in their antler headbands. The children also entertained with a few festive hymns. It was made all the more special by the children's rendition of 'Little Donkey' which became 'little Herdy, Little Herdy.. on the lonely road'......Just brilliant.

Festive regards,

Your FOSS Team

FoSS Disco
Friday, 3rd November 2017
A belated but heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the latest Slaley disco. The children of Slaley school and friends did not let us down and committed to the dance floor for two mad hours of dancin' to tunes delivered by the Discoman of Prudhoe. SLALEY KIDS ROCK!

Thank you very much for the food contributions (Penny, thanks to Lucy), thanks to the volunteers, in the kitchen and also manning the doors but most of all, thanks for turning up and supporting the school. It's never a massive fundraiser because of costs but it's great to get the children together outside of school, so thank you.

Kind regards

Your FOSS team

Sponsored Walk - Sunday, 26th June

A wonderful sponsored walk took place on Sunday26th June it took us from Rowley Burn to Allendale and back!

The children and most of the families took a shorter route which took them to Westburnhope and back down the 'Long Drag' heading back to Rowley Burn where they enjoyed a picnic and a splash in the ford!

A couple of the parents headed over the beautiful moor to Allendale and back. The weather was on our side AGAIN!!! We were fortunate enough to hear many skylark singing, curlew, golden plover and even spotted a merlin hunting.

Many thanks to all involved for helping to make the walk a great success, also for your generous sponsors.  The money raised will be put together with the children's school grounds sponsored walk.

Thank you Linda!

Another evening of Carol singing, ‘Reindeer’ and a Christmas Raffle draw...

Saturday, 15th December 2018

Sorry to those of you who’d planned to come along to the Carol Singing evening at the Rose and Crown on Saturday night but simply couldn’t make it because of some really dangerous road conditions and freezing rain. So it was a small depleted stock of children from the School who did amazingly well singing songs from their Christingle Rock Nativity with ‘Circle of love’ and ‘Count each blessing’- in fact they sang it twice!! The rest of the Community were also in fine voice and joined in singing other favourites hymns such as Silent Night..which was particularly special under candle light during the 30 minute power cut!!

I’d like to say a realy special thanks to Alan Ogle and his grandchildren who battled up the village to get the ‘Special Reindeer’ to the pub in time which the kids just loved and was definately a highlight of the evening.

Thanks for all your support and your donations.....we raised a total of £260!!!

.....and the winners of the hampers were as follows:

Ella Smith winning the ‘Boozie Santa’ hamper

Bea Stephenson winning the ‘Chocolate Wonderland’ hamper

Andrew Cowie winning the hamper from the Staff at the School and

‘Neil’ who won our Festive Frenzie hamper.

 Festive regards,
