Tynedale Gymnastics Competition

13th February 2020
On Thursday 13th February, the pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 took part in the Annual Tynedale Gymnastics Competition run by Helen Robson, the local School Games Organiser.

This year, we entered two teams as we had so many gymnasts who had reached the competition standard. The teams were selected, following the competition held in school, where the same judging criteria was used.

The format of the competition was different this year, but very successful.

There was a rotation of four activities. There were two routines that the pupils were judged on, and two “fun” sessions to enjoy. Our five pupils who were not competing were invited to join in the Activity sessions and a great time was had by all.

There was a set of Asymmetric Bars where volunteer coaches were available to help the pupils to perform different skills.

The pupils experienced three heights of Beam, where an instructor taught the pupils different skills to carry out while balancing on the beams.

This all looked very challenging, but everyone tried everything and really enjoyed themselves.

The two competition routines were judged by two independent and very experienced Gymnastic Coaches. A team’s final score is made up of the totals of the six gymnasts’ scores on both routines.

Every pupil in the two teams performed incredibly well and I was extremely proud of them because of their behaviour, attitude and supportive team spirit. They even remembered to thank the judges!

There were twenty teams competing from seventeen schools.

Our A team came 2nd overall:

Ella & Freddie (Yr3)

Lotte, Amy , Noah & Bea (Yr4)

Our B team came 6th overall:

Hannah, Freya & Madeline (Yr3)

Archie, Sarah & Jasmine (Yr4)

An amazing achievement from all competitors; we are very proud of them.

A great day for Slaley First School!
