Celebrating European Day of Languages
25th September 2019
The European Day of Languages (EDL) is celebrated across Europe on the 26th of September every year. It aims to promote the rich linguistic diversity of Europe and raise awareness of the importance of lifelong language learning for everyone. It was set up by the Council of Europe and was first celebrated in 2001.
In Slaley we celebrated on Wednesday 25th September with a delicious meal cooked by our head chef Signora Seymour .
Class 1 looked at the colours represented in the Italian flag; constructed a 'recycled' version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa; wrote shopping lists for an Italian picnic and recreated the Colosseum out of sand - quite a busy afternoon!
Class 2 explored and shared the different European languages represented in their class; performed a song in Italian which they sang to the rest of the school and created their own scientific inventions after learning about Leonardo Da Vinci's creations.
As you can tell, the children have had a wonderful time!
