A Visit from a Local Historian
Our Topic during the Spring term in KS2, has been based on a period of history relevant to our local area. Year 3 and 4 have been learning about the Lead Mining industry in the area around Killhope, Allenheads and the Dukesfield Arches.
As a final session, a local historian was invited into school to talk to the pupils about the history of the Arches and the restoration project which was carried out. Mrs Pat Wilson was heavily involved in the project to compile the history of the site and brought in some very interesting pictures taken of the archaeological dig. She also brought in a lot of information, pictures and photographs about the history of the Lead Smelting Mill at the Dukesfield Arches site.
The pupils really enjoyed seeing everything that Mrs Wilson had brought in and asked a lot of questions which Mrs Wilson was able to answer for them. This was a great way to bring our Topic to a close and the pupils would like to say a big 'Thank You' to Mrs Wilson for a very informative and entertaining afternoon.
